YOGYAKARTA DAY 1 : 8 HOURS TRAIN RIDE + MALIOBORO STREET (VIDEO)

I'm finally back from my recent trip to Yogyakarta. I like this city. From food to taxi, everything is so cheap. I made a video about my first day, go check the video below...

Sit in the economy class train can be a challenge. Not the most comfortable seat, but for me, it is still bearable for 8 hours long journey. I prefer economy class because it is cheaper (of course). For round trip, it cost just IDR 225.000,- (US$ 20) such a really good deal, right? But if you prefer to book a flight, you have to spend at least IDR 900.000,-  from Jakarta for round trip fare.

I went to Yogyakarta with 4 other friends, such a mini group tour. We departed from Jakarta to Yogyakarta at 6.45 am, and arrived at 03.05 pm. After we arrived we went straight to our hotel by foot, and sadly it was super duper hyper tiring, because we were carrying our bulky backpack. We thought that the hotel is near from the train station so it is possible to walk.

We spent our first night at Hotel Asih. I'm not really recommend this hotel, because from my opinion, the room I stayed at was not clean, kinda smelly, but price is reasonable. As your information we stayed at their family room (1 king bed + 1 single bed).

At night we decided to visit Malioboro Street. Malioboro street is a street full of batik and souvenir vendors. Most people said that Malioboro is a must visit, well it's true, but if you are looking for high quality batik or leather goods, Malioboro is not for you. If you shop around Malioboro, don't forget to ALWAYS bargain at least 50% from the first price given, especially if you are foreigners. There are also many food stalls but pricier.

xx, Vonny

  2. Actually you can find high quality batik & crafts but not in the stalls on the pedestrian. Many stores along the street provide them. If you're lucky, some trusted producers join exhibitions in Malioboro mal.
